Ingredients:

  • 4 oz Dry Soy Curls
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 3 tbsp Tamari or Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Avocado oil

Instructions:

  1. Place the dry soy curls in a bowl and cover with 2 cups of warm water. Let them sit for 10 minutes until soft.
  2. Drain the curls and wrap them in a clean, lint-free kitchen towel. Wring the towel forcefully to extract as much water as possible until the curls feel dry to the touch and slightly flattened.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the tamari, maple syrup, liquid smoke, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  4. Toss the squeezed soy curls into the glaze, ensuring every piece is thoroughly and evenly coated.
  5. Heat the avocado oil in a large heavy-bottomed skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat. Add the soy curls in a single layer and sear, pressing down with a spatula to ensure contact, until the edges are crispy and mahogany-colored.
